Tameka Givens

North Carolina Central University, Master's in School Counseling

Hello, my name is Tameka Givens, and I’m a licensed mental health and school counselor with over seven years of experience supporting children and adolescents. I’ve dedicated my career to helping young people navigate the complex emotional, academic, and social challenges they face every day—whether it’s managing anxiety, processing trauma, or building self-confidence. My background is rooted in both education and mental health, and I’ve worked across diverse school settings, always striving to create safe spaces where students feel heard, valued, and empowered. I’m especially passionate about early intervention and advocating for equitable access to mental health resources for all children, regardless of their background. Outside of work, I love cooking, spending time with my family, and watching anime—something that often helps me connect with students and reminds me of the importance of imagination and storytelling. A fun fact about me: I once led a yoga and mindfulness group for middle schoolers that turned into the most popular club at the school! My own experiences growing up taught me the power of having just one adult who believes in you—and I strive to be that person for every student I meet. My ideal client is a child or teen feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, identity struggles, or life transitions. They want to feel safe, seen, and supported as they work toward confidence, emotional balance, and self-acceptance. I specialize in helping young people process emotions, develop healthy coping tools, and build resilience. I offer a warm, nonjudgmental space rooted in empathy and cultural understanding. You don’t have to face it alone—I'm here to walk with you.
