Daybreak Health Partners with Guilford County Schools to Expand School-Based Mental Health Services

Guilford County Schools middle and high school students will now have access to Daybreak’s unlimited, 1:1 teletherapy program with qualified mental health clinicians

Daybreak Health, the leading provider of school-based mental health services, today announced a new partnership with the Guilford County Schools (GCS) for the 2023-2024 school year. Daybreak’s teletherapy services will be accessible to middle and high school students at GCS who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, trauma, and more.

Kids are facing a crisis unlike anything the U.S. has ever seen with staggering rates of anxiety, depression and suicide. Like other districts across the country, GCS observed an increase in student mental health needs over the past several years, which is why the district made it a strategic priority to provide more school-based mental health support for the new school year.

Daybreak’s teletherapy programs at GCS will allow students to quickly access high-quality and culturally competent care to meet their unique needs. This unlimited model allows the district to easily refer any student that they think could benefit from these services. Teletherapy sessions can start within 1-2 weeks of a referral—with parental consent and at no cost to families.

“It was incredibly important to us to find another partner that was just as dedicated to providing effective, equitable access to mental health support for our students amid a rising need. We are confident that Daybreak’s teletherapy services will help us to quickly increase access to our school-based mental health services for any middle or high school student who needs it,” said Dr. Kimberly Steinke, Interim Chief of Exceptional Children and Student Services for Guilford County Schools. “This innovative program will not only allow students to have access to clinicians with diverse backgrounds and experiences, but also have flexibility in when and where they meet with their therapist.”

Daybreak’s evidence-based teletherapy programs are designed for teens—and have proven to drive behavioral improvements, better grades, and higher attendance. Every program is customized to each student and they are matched to their therapist based on presenting needs, cultural background, language, and personal preferences.

“Student success starts with mental health,” said Alex Alvarado, CEO and Co-Founder of Daybreak Health. “When kids are mentally healthy, they can think clearer, pay better attention and learn new skills — which translate into positive academic outcomes. At Daybreak, our best-in-class clinical team is committed to helping students reach their full potential. This partnership with GCS will help to build a stronger, healthier future for the entire Guilford community.”
