Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child's school partners with Daybreak?

If you're not sure whether Daybreak is available at your child's school district, please feel free to reach out to us at hello@daybreakhealth.com and we'll let you know!

If your child's school does partner with Daybreak, you may be able to submit a referral for your child here, or you can contact your school counselor to make a referral for you.

When and where do the teletherapy sessions take place?

Kids can meet with their therapist when it fits with their schedule and wherever they choose (within the state in which their therapist is permitted to practice). Our therapists are available between 7am and 8pm Monday-Saturday.

How is my child matched with their therapist?

Daybreak has a proprietary matching process that matches kids and therapists with 90% accuracy the first time. Our clinicians have years of experience working with youth, and represent a variety of cultures and communities. Collectively, our clinicians offer sessions in 14 different languages. Additionally our clinicians specialize across 26 different mental health conditions and 13 modalities of care. Daybreak's smart matching process is designed to deliver a clinically sound and culturally responsive match. In the rare instances when we don't get it right the first time, you or your child can always request a new therapist and we'll make that change quickly.

Do I have to submit our insurance information?

Yes, insurance is required to start therapy services with Daybreak, unless your child is enrolled in a school district that partners with Daybreak and has made special arrangements for uninsured care.

What age groups does Daybreak work with?

Daybreak works with kids ages 5-19 years. Kids ages 5-11 are candidates for family therapy, and kids ages 10-19 are candidates for individual teletherapy.

Can Daybreak clinicians prescribe medication?

Daybreak clinicians can't prescribe medications at this time. We can coordinate care with a prescribing clinician, after you have signed a Release of Information allowing our clinician to do so.

Will my child receive a diagnosis?

Your child will likely receive a diagnosis as part of joining Daybreak's program. Our diagnoses are typically broad and simply serve as a way to frame the high-level symptoms the child is dealing with. The diagnosis can be shared with your child's primary care provider, with your written consent, so that your child can get medication for conditions such as ADD or ADHD. The diagnosis will be shared with insurance companies only on an as-needed basis, for example as part of prior authorization for additional services. Please reach out to carecoordinator@daybreakhealth.com if you have any questions regarding diagnosis and the impact.

How do the online therapy sessions work?

Daybreak provides video-based 1:1 teletherapy sessions between a child and their matched therapist. These sessions occur weekly for 50-minutes at a regular time with their assigned therapist. We work hard to accommodate the time that works best for the child and family's schedules. In between sessions, a child may get additional support from their therapist through text-based messaging.

How much does therapy cost?

At Daybreak, our mission is to make high quality mental health support available to all kids who need it. The cost of therapy at Daybreak follows the cost-sharing features of your specific insurance plan. If your insurance plan includes a deductible, coinsurance, and/or copays, then you will be expected to pay that cost-sharing, up to the limits of your plan. Note that most Medicaid plans do not require cost-sharing.

If your child's school district is partnered with Daybreak, then there may be different arrangements for cost-sharing. Please send us an email at carecoordinator@daybreakhealth.com to find out if your child's school district is partnered with Daybreak.

How do I know about the progress my child is making in the teletherapy program?

Our clinicians have regular check-ins with the parent(s). It's an opportunity for clinicians to share what they are working on in their sessions and how families can help to effectively support the child in school and at home. We always respect the fundamental confidentiality of our sessions with the child.

How do I know my child's privacy is protected?

Daybreak Health's platforms are compliant with all federal and state privacy laws, including but not limited to FERPA and HIPAA. The child and parents/guardians have access to - and own - all records of therapy with Daybreak. At the request of the child or parent, records will be deleted from the system.
